Terms of use and sale

The agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and the developer of RetainWord ("we", "us"). By using RetainWord or creating an account, you accept them. How we handle your data is explained in the privacy policy.

Who can use it

You must be at least 16 years old. If you use RetainWord for an organisation, you confirm you may accept these terms on its behalf.

Your account

Keep your password to yourself, and tell us through the contact form or at support@retainword.com if you think someone else has used your account: you’re responsible for what happens under it. You can delete it at any time from Settings → Account & plan.

What you save

What you save and write stays yours. You let us store and process it as needed to run RetainWord: syncing it between your devices, and sending words and sentences to our AI providers to write meanings and check your answers. Don’t save anything you’re not allowed to share, such as other people’s personal information.

Meanings written by AI

Meanings, examples, pronunciations and corrections in RetainWord are written by AI. They are usually right, but can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Check anything important elsewhere, and don’t rely on RetainWord for legal, medical or other professional translation.

Fair use

• Use the service for your own learning.
• Don’t try to get around its limits, overload it, or reach other people’s data.
• Don’t copy, resell or scrape the service or its meanings, or use them to train other AI models.
• Don’t use it for anything unlawful.
• Don’t send words or invitations to people who don’t want them.

If these rules are broken, we may suspend or close the account, after a warning whenever we reasonably can.

The free plan

The free plan has no time limit. It includes 30 new meanings a month; meanings already written for another learner don’t count. We may change what it includes, and we’ll tell you before a change takes away something you use.

Paid plans

• Paid plans are sold by Paddle (Paddle.com Market Ltd), our reseller and merchant of record. Paddle handles payment, invoices and sales tax, and its buyer terms also apply to your purchase.
• Prices are shown before you pay, with tax where it applies.
• A Pro subscription renews automatically each month or year until you cancel. Cancel any time from the link in your receipt email; you keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for.
• Lifetime gives you Pro for as long as RetainWord runs, with no renewal.

Refunds

If RetainWord isn’t right for you, ask for a refund within 30 days of your purchase, through the contact form or at support@retainword.com or through Paddle from your receipt email, and you get your money back in full. This doesn’t limit any other right to cancel or be refunded that the law of your country gives you.

Changes and availability

We keep improving RetainWord, so features change. We aim to keep it running at all times but can’t promise it will never be interrupted. If we ever close RetainWord, we’ll tell you at least 30 days before, so you can export everything you saved.

Liability

RetainWord is provided as it is. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, such as lost time or data, or for decisions based on its meanings, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights that the law of your country doesn’t allow to be limited.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, we update the date at the top and, if the change matters, tell you in the app or by email before it applies. If you don’t agree, you can stop using RetainWord and delete your account.

Law and disputes

If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of your country’s mandatory laws and can go to its courts. Before anything else, write to us through the contact form or at support@retainword.com: most problems are solved that way.
